Timeshare Business Check

The Timeshare Business Check website (provided by the Timeshare Task Force and Kwikchex supported by EUROC and RDO) is the source of information to advise timeshare owners on how to protect themselves from misleading resale, transfer and marketing scams and also to give them a website whereby they can verify information regarding businesses operating within, or associated with the European timeshare sector.

You will be able to find out:

  • Advice and resources to carry out checks on businesses and products prior to making any payments or entering into contracts.
  • Level of transparency regarding their business details
  • Any official government action taken against the company/executives
  • Check for warnings about specific businesses.
  • Advice on what steps to take if you have paid monies/entered into a contract and are concerned that there may be dishonest, fraudulent or incompetent practices.

Complaint or concern about a Developer or Home Owner Club

The Resort Development Organisation consumer policy allows timeshare consumers to make complaints and general enquiries about an RDO Member. You can find further information on the process and download the complaint registration form on the RDO website

If your Home Owner Club/Resort is not a member of the Resort Development Organisation, then owners should contact the Timeshare Task Force Helpline for information and advice.

Timeshare resale advice

Before you engage with a 3rd party, we recommend that if you would like to sell your timeshare that you speak directly to your home owner club/resort in the first instance to discuss the options available to you or contact an RDO Member company to ensure you are fully protected. You can find further information on timeshare resales on the RDO website.

If you choose to sell timeshare through a 3rd party that is not your home owner club/resort or a non RDO member, please be wary if the company:

  • Cold-called you and initiated contact.
  • States your resort, an exchange company, RDO or a European listing of timeshare owners provided your telephone number. This will not be the case.
  • Claims to already have a buyer.
  • Promises to pay an unusually high price for your timeshare.
  • Asks you to pay an upfront fee for legal, registration or administrative purposes. This is now illegal.
  • Pressures you into signing up for a holiday club or discount travel club in return for your timeshare.
  • Is a firm of solicitors asking for an upfront payment to help you obtain a refund of money you paid to a company which has failed to deliver the service it has promised?

Timeshare release advice

Sometimes timeshare owners need to hand-back or sell their timeshare weeks for many different reasons.  At this time, owners looking for an exit, can be vulnerable to fraudulent operators.

In the first instance, EUROC suggests you always contact your home owner club/resort to discuss the options available to you.

If your Home Owner Club/Resort is a member of the RDO, it will have an exit programme in place therefore you should contact them directly to discuss the options available to you.

If your Home Owner Club/Resort is not a member of the Resort Development Organisation, then owners should contact the Timeshare Task Force Helpline for information and advice regarding timeshare release.

The Timeshare Task Force helpline is a free service available to timeshare owners and is operated by Kwikchex via funding received from EUROC and is approved by UK Trading Standards.
